Azealia Banks Tweets That Australians Are "Terrible Crowds To Play For"

Azealia Banks does not like performing in Australia, which she made very clear in a series of tweets on Monday. She was in the country performing at the Splendour in the Grass festival, and although her show got rave reviews, her Twitter shows it wasn't all cheery.

"You guys are terrible crowds to play for. You're violent and belligerent and I simply will not put my safety at risk," Banks tweeted.

Banks was replying to a tweet from radio broadcaster Paul Brown. He sent a snark-filled tweet calling for congratulations to Banks for "completing her First Ever Full Australian Concert."

Brown was apparently referring to Banks' previous appearances in the country. In 2013, Banks left the stages of the Listen Out festival in Sydney and Melbourne. She did this because people threw cans at the stage at both performances.

"I would've walked off stage had someone thrown something," Banks said on Twitter.

Before her show, some doubted that Banks would even show up, given her history of performances in Australia.

"I'm also hoping to win the 'What Excuse Will Azealia Banks Use To Cancel At The Last Minute?' sweepstake," wrote Alan Evans at The Guardian. "My money is on a strained larynx after a heated argument about Australia's stance on same-sex marriage."

Despite the off-stage drama, reviews say that Banks' performance at Splendour was awesome, even through rains that plagued the festival.

"Yesterday the singer of 'The 212' was on fire, with two male dancers following her steps while performing songs from her latest release," wrote Northern Star.

Banks has never particularly been Austrlia's biggest fan. Last winter, she called out Iggy Azalea on Twitter for not talking about civil rights, calling the "Fancy" rapper "Igloo Australia."

Banks recently joined in on Nicki Minaj's fight against the MTV VMAs. She said on Twitter that she'll "never get one because America doesn't like opinionated black women."
