The list of Christian Grey fan-favorites continues to grow... from Ian Somerhalder to Matt Bomber to Ryan Gosling, several "Fifty Shades of Grey" enthusiasts can't agree upon which Hollywood heartthrob should be the one to seduce and sexually satisfy Anastasia Steele in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' hit erotica novel. But here's an unlikely name that has recently stirred some "Fifty Shades" buzz... 23-year-old Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe. Okay, so it may be difficult for some fans to picture the Hogwarts wizard getting down and dirty up on the big screen, but it turns out Radcliffe isn't a novice to the world of graphic sex scenes... The English actor stars as beat poet Allen Ginsburg in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival flick "Kill Your Darlings," where he films a very erotic gay sex scene and several heavy make-out clips with costar Dane DeHaan. And according to Radcliffe, such explicit and erotically physical onscreen acts (even performed with another man) really aren't a big deal. So does Radcliffe's openness and acceptance in regards to such "sexually forbidden" material make him a worthy Christian Grey contender?
Starring in "Kill Your Darlings" (a film about a 1944 murder that draws together three great poets - Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs) isn't Radcliffe's first controversial role. From 2007-2009, the "Woman in Black" actor performed as Alan Strang in "Equus," a play about a deranged boy who has a pathological fascination with horses. Radcliffe appeared completely nude throughout a majority of the performance. And according to Radcliffe, such public nudity and sexuality isn't bothersome or awkward in the least. Radcliffe recently told MTV News about the much-talked about gay sex scene in "Kill Your Darlings" -
"It's interesting that it's deemed shocking. For me, there's something very strange about that because we see straight sex scenes all the time. We've seen gay sex scenes before. I don't know why a gay sex scene should be any more shocking than a straight sex scene. Or both of them are equally un-shocking... What weirded me out the most last night (Jan. 18 premiere) was that people were asking me all these questions about the gay sex scenes. I was like, 'You know I did 'Equus?' Some people are asking me questions like this is a more shocking subject, which is so strange."
So if Radcliffe doesn't find gay sex scenes or performing completely nude onstage the least bit shocking, he might make the perfect Christian Grey candidate... he'd even have the opportunity to explore the kinkier side of heterosexual sexuality.
Even so, the fact that Radcliffe starred as the infamous wizard hero in the "Harry Potter" film series for so many years could deeply limit his chances of every snagging the role of Christian Grey. But what do fans think... does Radcliffe have the potential to take on such an erotic role?
FYI: Radcliffe's fellow "Harry Potter" costar Emma Watson also remains a top Anastasia Steele fan-favorite in several Mstarz casting polls...
