The Five Nights at Freddy's horror survival, point-and-click video game series was launched about a year ago, and just last week gamers were treated the fourth and apparently "final chapter" of the franchise on Steam. This won't be the end of Freddy Fazbear's scary animatronic monsters though. Earlier this spring, Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon announced that a movie adaptation of the gameplay was in the works and now we have an update on this story! According to new reports, Gil Kenan, the director of the 2015 Poltergeist remake is allegedly in talks to helm the project! Read more on this news below!

"The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," Cawthon told The Hollywood Reporter a number of months ago when discussing the movie deal with Warner Bros. Studios.

Though the game has evolved a bit in the 2015 chapter, the concept is very simple and absolutely terrifying. It's first-person gameplay as a security guard manning the night shift at a kids' restaurant comparable to Chuck-E-Cheese. Unfortunately for you, the out of commission animatronics characters come to life at night and try to kill you. You have to survive a five nights in order to be successful (via Gamma Squad).

You can watch a gameplay trailer for the first installment of the game, released just last year, right here:

According to Deadline, director Gil Kenan is about to sign on to helm the live-action adaptation of the highly successful video game. It looks like casting could start soon as well.
