Reports confirm that after spending several days in a coma, actor Sean Malone died on July 29 at the age of 54. Back on July 20, Malone almost drowned while swimming at a beach in South Boston. After an intense rescue effort, the "Gone Baby Gone" star never regained consciousness.

According to The Boston Globe, an off-duty firefighter spotted Malone drifting out a bit too far in the water at M Street Beach in Massachusetts. The man eventually lost sight of Malone, but swam out to help with three other teenagers on a boat. Malone (who also played small parts in several Beantown-based films including "The Fighter" and "The Forger") was brought to shore and imemdiately given CPR. He was quickly transferred to Boston Medical Center and listed in critical condition. Nine days later, he sadly passed away on Wednesday. The news was later confirmed on Twitter:

@BostonFire: "Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center... His family would like to thank the dedicated staff at BMC, Boston EMS, those that rescued Sean and their friends for their support."
