Some really concerning news broke earlier this week when reports claimed that Channing Tatum could step down as the star of the highly anticipated Gambit solo movie based on the Marvel comic book character from the X-Men series. According to reports and rumors, the Magic Mike XXL superstar is apparently in some sort of dispute with 20th Century Fox, which is extremely disheartening considering Tatum just helped skyrocket the hype around the movie earlier this month at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. We're still waiting on a confirmation on his departure from the film and whether or not the movie will even be made, but for now we've decided to list our top five choices of actor that could replace Channing as Remy Lebeau in the 2016 movie. Keep reading for some information on possible replacements! (We didn't include the Internet's favorite choice, Josh Holloway and others, due to age - it's an origin movie, people!)

When this news broke, many movie news outlets jumped on the trend of naming Tatum's possible replacements, or rather a "wish list" of stars that could take his place. We decided to share our own opinions on this matter.

We understand that "dream/fan casting" definitely comes into play with this topic, but our top five choices consist of actors that fit the role, the story and the box office expectations. Below, you can check out five actors that we believe can replace Tatum as Gambit in the solo movie from 20th Century Fox if (which is a big "if," by the way) the studio doesn't cancel the project.

Taylor Kitsch

We know that Kitsch already had his chance at portraying Remy, but why not just stick with the plan and let him have the role again? Though X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn't too great, Kitsch's Gambit was not the downfall of the film. Heck, Ryan Reynolds managed to get a Deadpool spinoff out of this project. Kitsch has proven himself a fine actor. All he has to do is grow his hair back from his True Detective look and we're set!

Andrew Garfield

Fox and Marvel are rebooting Spider-Man with the young actor Tom Holland, meaning Garfield's Amazing days are over. We know he's athletic and that he can draw moviegoers to a theater, so why not cast him as the smooth-talking thief? As a critically acclaimed actor, he's more than capable of handling the role, plus his humor is perfect for Gambit. What do you think?

Ryan Gosling

Marvel and DC have been trying to get Gosling onto the big screen as a superhero for years, so why not give him a role he can really sink his teeth into. We know he likes to change up his accents and he has the charm of a New Orleans con artist built into him already-this would work! Clearly, his audience appeal would mean an instant box office success, too.

Matt Smith

The former Doctor Who star has the hair (if he grows it back), the build and the acting chops to make this movie a hit. His loyal fans (Whovians) would flock to theaters to see him, plus they're probably already into comic books, so it's a win-win situation! He's not exactly a huge name, but he is in the demographic that counts.

Martin Wallström

You probably don't know the name yet, but Willström is a supporting star of the hit show Mr. Robot. Studios love using unknowns for new projects and this actor would be a perfect for the Cajun comic book character.

Honestly, though, Channing Tatum would've been excellent in this role, so we're holding out hope that he isn't off of the project.
