After telling her Twitter followers that she's "on it" regarding gun control, comedian Amy Schumer came through with her promise. Following that horrible shooting in Louisiana during a showing of Schumer's film Trainwreck, the comedian partnered up with New York Senator Chuck Schumer (who is apparently her cousin) in order to take a stand on gun regulations and make tighter laws.

During a press conference on Monday, Schumer (the comedian) took to the podium alongside the Senator and announced an initiative that tackles a three-pronged approach. The plan focuses on "background checks and mental health funding," according to USA Today.

The publication notes that Senator Schumer plans to "reward states with funding for submitting all necessary records into background checks system." Furthermore, he plans to penalize states that do not do so.

On the new anti-gun approach, both Schumers are planning to call upon the Department of Justice to assure that recommendations are made available to states in how to handle "involuntary mental-health commitments."

In her speech, Schumer admitted that she doesn't know why the shooter chose to do it during a showing of Trainwreck, but one thing is certain: the man should not have been able to have the gun in the first place.

She also stated that because of this, it was very personal to her.

In a statement regarding the shooting, director Judd Apatow wrote that a reason for making a movie such as Trainwreck is to take the general public away from the fact that "the world can be so horrifying."

Take a look at the press conference over on CNN.
