Los Angeles Clippers' former owner Donald Sterling filed for divorce from his estranged wife Shelly this week. The two were together for 60 years before legally calling it quits on Wednesday. The couple cited irreconcilable differences in the paperwork they submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court. The date of their original separation goes back to August 1, 2012. Attorney Bobby Samini says there is a lot of money at stake here. When Sterling was forced to sell the Clippers after the racist tapes were leaked last year a billion dollars was transferred and he wants to know where the money went.

"There's still a billion from the sale that hasn't been transferred," Samini said. "We want to know where the money went. A billion is a lot of money. We want to know who was paid what after the closing of the escrow. She may have paid the taxes. We haven't seen any evidence of that. It's clearly an unfortunate situation but my client can't continue to sit by while his rights are trampled."

What we know so far about the money situation is that Shelly Sterling has collected half of her $2 billion sale of the team. The other billion will be frozen until ex-husband Sterling signs off on the sale and drops his suit against the NBA. Now, of the $1 billion transferred to the Sterling family trust, Shelly has paid out more than $600 million in taxes and legal fees.

The divorce comes two weeks after their 60th anniversary and four months after a judge ordered V. Stiviano to give up the keys to Sterling's $1.8 million home. On Stiviano's end of the legal proceedings she must pay out $800,000 to Shelly and a Ferrari. These were all gifts Donald gave her.

Here is an Instagram picture of Stiviano offering her condolences to Donald's divorce.

Shelly Sterling said in April that while the two are not together by law, they are very much so in each other's lives.

"We're in each other's lives, and we probably always will be," Shelly said. "We're together sometimes, and sometimes not together."
