In 2014, Django Unchained actress, Danielle Watts, was arrested for allegedly having sex in a car with her boyfriend, Brian Lucas. For the incident, the judge offered the couple a plea deal where all they had to do was write the arresting officer an apology letter. During the arrest, Watts called the officer racist and in the letter, she sarcastically blamed what happened to her and her boyfriend on the actions of other police officers.

In the letter, Watts acknowledged the officer's statement of "Thank you for bringing up the race card. I never hear that." She says this made her lash out against the officer.

"I felt provoked because I had previously encountered many disheartening experiences related to 'being black' both in my personal life and as reflected in society overall," she wrote. "Your willingness to dismiss my experience with sarcasm was hurtful, and caused me to respond defensively."

Watts then went on to mention interracial dating. In that portion of her letter, she sarcastically implied that the arrest was solely due to a black woman being with a white man.

"Looking on the brighter side, we believe that the public discourse that surrounded our encounter was beneficial as it provided an opportunity for the public to discuss, and more deeply understand the 'taboo' subject of interracial relationships. As you may know, interracial marriage was only made legal in the United States in 1967, and for many, it is still a very sensitive issue. I am grateful for our meeting because it allowed me to examine the self-hatred I had been bottling inside, and release it. We truly appreciate role you've played in bringing awareness to so many issues."

Watts says on her Twitter that the letter was rejected:

Watts was arrested back in September 2014 after someone called 911 and said a couple was involved in "indecent exposure" inside a Silver Mercedes. The actress and her boyfriend were released once it was deemed that no crime was committed. The responding officer LAPD Sergeant Jim Parker says race was never a factor.
