Alicia Keys penned an open letter about her journey to self-love, titled A Revelation, sharing her struggles with insecurities over the years. The “28 Thousand Days” singer took to her personal website to talk to her fans and readers about overcoming her self-confidence issues and blossoming into the successful woman we know and love today. She left us with an Instagram photo inspired by the one and only Muhammad Ali.

“I became comfortable hiding, my intelligence, my physical appearance, my truths, my thoughts, myself,” she writes to readers. She even noted a moment when she felt this insecurity after already entering fame, penning, "I remember one interview I gave had strong social thoughts from a book I just read. The writer misunderstood me and wrote something that I didn’t say. I felt judged by those reading it. Out came the shell again and me under it. Hiding, piece by piece. Little by little. More and more.“

Following Keys's confession on her insecurities, the R&B songstress then details her revelation and how she was able to snap out of that hidden zone. She wrote, “I don’t have to try to go unnoticed. I don’t have to fit in. I don’t have to close up my thoughts and only speak my truth through songs!” By the end of the open letter, Alicia signs off with a link to her brand new song, “28 Thousand Days,” which is named after the amount of days the average person lives.

Along with A Revelation, Keys also posted a photo of her re-enacting Muhammad Ali’s classic picture training at the bottom of a pool. She later posted the photo to her Instagram, shot by Brendan Forbes, where she commented that she was “#inspiredbythegreatest,” for her Revelation post.

Despite being in the spotlight with money and fame, Alicia Keys is proving that she is like most women with insecurities, emotions, and a bright personality.
