Ferguson Protests: St. Louis Officer Brags About “Michael Brown Bonus” on Facebook

It's been just over a year since the now-famous Michael Brown killing and subsequent protests in Ferguson. Now, with riots still occurring, more headlines are cropping up as a result of one St. Louis officer Todd J. Bakula – aka TJ Thekoola, according to his Facebook page. Bakula reportedly used his overtime pay from working on the Ferguson case to go on vacation. What's causing a controversy, however, is not the vacation, but a Facebook post in which he announced (or bragged) that he used his "Michael Brown bonus" to go on vacation with his wife.

Bakula also posted a photo with the caption. The photograph shows him and his wife smiling alongside another one of his wife on a bike.

The post reads:

"I decided to spend my annual Michael Brown bonus on a nice relaxing bicycle ride trip to Defiance. Eating dinner now and staying at a bed and breakfast tonight. And heres to my awesome wife for doing this with me while being 18 weeks pregnant."

The Guardian first went out for a comment from Bakula. And while they didn't get a response (shocking!), St. Louis Country police spokesman Shawn McGuire released a statement to the paper:

"The St. Louis County police department takes these allegations very serious in every case. The remarks on the Facebook page will be investigated by our department."
