Dr. Dre Abuse In 'Straight Outta Compton' Ignored: Dee Barnes & Michel'le's Confirm Beatings

Journalist Dee Barnes says the NWA box office hit movie Straight Outta Compton hid Dr. Dre's violence against women and towards her.

The writer was assaulted by Dr. Dre in 1991 at the Po Na Na Souk nightclub after he blasted her for intentionally airing Ice Cube's diss against NWA. In her Gawker essay, Barnes said that she was beat by the producer and was relieved it wasn't played out in the film.

"Dr. Dre straddled me and beat me mercilessly on the floor of the women's restroom at the Po Na Na Souk nightclub in 1991," Barnes wrote.

"That event isn't depicted in Straight Outta Compton, but I don't think it should have been, either," Barnes continued. "The truth is too ugly for a general audience. I didn't want to see a depiction of me getting beat up, just like I didn't want to see a depiction of Dre beating up Michel'le, his one-time girlfriend who recently summed up their relationship (during an interview with VladTV) this way: 'I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat on and told to sit down and shut up.'"

During Michel'le's interview with Vlad TV, she revealed that Dr. Dre shot at her after a heated argument, "We partied and I guess I don't know what I always did so I would say, 'it couldn't just been me.' So, one night we were arguing and he got the gun and I just made it through the bathroom door and he shot at me and missed me by that much," she said pinching her fingers. "I left the bullet in the hole. It was in the door and it went in the side of the wall in the bathroom. I left it there for a while just so he could see it."
