Triston Stephens, 15 shot himself at his high school bathroom Monday morning. The teenager, a ninth grader at Coweta Intermediate High School in Oklahoma, shot himself in the head shortly after his first class on Monday.

The sound of the gunshot sent the high school in a lockdown, as ninth graders were sent to the school's gymnasium, and other students were sent home. Panic rocked the school, but the classes have resumes today with professional onsite to help any student struggling with grief.

Police Lt. Donnie Krumsiek stated, "We're going to be very in-depth and thorough. We're going to interview everybody that potentially or possibly was involved, and we're going to try to give the family some closure, and that closure will come with the truth."

It's unclear why Stephens took his own life, but the suicide is a major blow to the community and a shock to teachers who claim the teen was a "very fine young man." According to Tulsa World, Coweta Superintendent Jeff Holmes, doesn't believe bullying was the cause of his death. A vigil was held for the teenager and student Jaci Sappington talked to Fox 23 about the ordeal, "I am in shock." She added, "I am like shaking right now, it's so weird."

Krumsiek expressed his condolences to Stephen's family saying,  "We want to think that in society that our kids are safe, and we try everything we can to keep those kids safe, and we will continue to try those efforts," he said. "Anytime something like this happens, you're shocked. It's hard. It's hard. "Our condolences go to the family, to the friends and to the students that knew this young man."
