Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for Season 3 in just a few weeks, and ABC has elected to release an extremely detailed synopsis that acts as a preview for the upcoming season's episodes. SPOILERS to follow.

For starters, the synopsis explains where each character sits in the wake of the events of Season 2. Coulson, now with one hand, is still trying to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D., while May is off with her ex-husband and Simmons has disappeared inside a giant wall of goo. Mockingbird is traumatized by Ward's torture of her, and Fitz is solely focused on getting Simmons back from wherever she went. And Ward is still out there with Hydra, plotting his next move.

"Many months after their war with a rogue group of Inhumans, the team is still reeling. Coulson is again trying to put the pieces of his once revered organization back together while also dealing with the loss of his hand," the synopsis states. "His confidante and second in command, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), has yet to return from an impromptu vacation with ex-husband Andrew (Blair Underwood); deadly superspy Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) is recovering from her traumatic torture at the hands of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton); Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is obsessed with discovering the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge); and all are on high-alert for the next move from Ward and Hydra. Ever since the existence of Super Heroes and aliens became public knowledge after the Battle of New York, the world has been trying to come to grips with this new reality."

The description also reveals the identities of some new faces in Season 3. Constance Zimmer will play the leader of the ATCU, or Advanced Threat Containment Unit. Andrew Howard joins her as "her intimidating partner," Banks. We also have two new Inhumans in Lash (Matthew Willig), described as a powerful Inhuman with unclear allegiances, and Joey, played by Juan Pablo Raba.
