Phillip Phillips Feels at 'Home' on Stage, 'American Idol' Winner Admits

American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillps said in a recent interview that while performing on stage he feels at "home," a nod to his recent hit song by the same name.

"It's the only place where I feel peace," he said. "You don't have to worry about you have to go here, be here at a certain time, answer the phone at this time of the day, then do radio.

"It's the only place where I can just not worry about anything, just kind of lose yourself however long you'll be playing. You just feel real free."

The singer, who is currently on tour, said he hears his song everywhere and jokingly added, "I hope people aren't getting annoyed with it."

Home sold more than 3.4 million copies since its debut in May of 2012, according to Toledo Free Press. The song was first performed during American Idol season 11's final performance and then again on the season finale where Phillips was declared the winner.

The song is featured on his debut album The World from the Side of the Moon, which was released in November of 2012. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Album chart in November of last year, according to the news report.

Phillip's latest single is Gone, Gone, Gone. The 22-year-old described it as a "a good love song" though it is not necessarily about a "love relationship." He elaborated by saying a love song "can be about a relationship with somebody else or something else."

Phillips and his four-piece acoustic band will open for Matchbox Twenty at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Stranahan Theater in Toledo, Ohio.

Season 12 of American Idol began on Jan. 16 with new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, along with veterans Randy Jackson and Keith Urban.
