USA's 'Complications' Season 2 AXED: Jason O'Mara, Jessica Szohr, Chris Chalk Drama Cancelled!

Unfortunately, Season 2 of Complications has been cancelled by USA Network. Viewers will not get to see what happens next as Doctor John Ellison (Jason O'Mara), his nurse Gretchen Polk (Jessica Szohr) deal with the repercussions from the death of Darius Bishop (Chris Chalk).

In our finale recap, reeling from his wife, Samantha (Beth Riesgraf)'s affair, John discovered Detective Holden was on the hunt for Antwon. After Darius revealed Holden was indeed a dirty cop, John raced to the secret hospital where Antwon was being taken care of. After Darius was shot down, John had no choice but to put down Holden. Though life returned to normal and his family was reunited, it took a mysterious phone call (voiced by Jay Karnes) to complicate matters for John.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, as USA network heads into its new creative direction, with darker themes and heavily serialized storylines, Complications was not picked up for a sophomore season. USA cancelled the show because of what sources call "a strong drama pipeline that includes upcoming new series Colony and Queen of the South."

In an interview with THR, creator/showrunner Mat Nix had plans for Samantha and Gretchen if the show was granted a second season, "All those relationships carry forward, including the new relationship he has with his wife. Samantha now knows things and she has her own resources. While she's not enthusiastic about John getting into trouble, she is certainly a mama bear when it comes to protecting her family, and as a lawyer, she has skills of her own, and one of the things I want to do, should we be so fortunate to get a season two, is be able to show a new side of Samantha and really get deeper into Gretchen's backstory and all of those things."

As Deadline reports, Black Box creator Amy Holden Jones has teamed up with Matt Nix for an untitled crime drama at CBS, which comes with a pilot commitment. Chris Chalk will next be seen as series regular in Season 2 of Gotham.
