The N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, could be getting a sequel film, as Welcome To Death Row is reportedly being shopped around. The success of the movie covering the story of the former rap group is dominating the globe right now, and is still topping box offices everywhere. Now, the story of the 2001 documentary, Welcome To Death Row, which was recently re-released, is being shopped as the movie’s potential sequel.

At this time, reports say that no necessary music rights are currently affiliated with the potential sequel movie covering the famous, controversial record label. Fortunately, that may not become a huge issue, as Straight Outta Compton had the same problem before securing their music rights in 2002.

The original writer and director of Welcome To Death Row, S. Leigh Savidge, was heavily involved in working on Straight Outta Compton, and even received a credit for the story at the end of the film.

As expected, the journey covered on Welcome To Death Row dives into the ups, downs, and eventually success behind the label’s artists, including Snoop Dogg and Tupac. It would also include the story of Suge Knight and his heavy involvement, as well as controversy, while being part of the label as a bodyguard.

Since releasing on Aug.14, it’s reported that Straight Outta Compton has earned approximately over $141 million in the box office. It’s been holding the top spot domestically for three weekends in a row, beating out other highly-anticipated films. Rumors say that the film is currently being shopped as a potential for an Academy Award nomination, and is now the highest grossing musical film, beating out the former winner, Walk The Line.

On top of Welcome To Death Row, a Tupac movie is getting close to starting its formulation and production stages, which will be done by Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla.
