Jen Welter, who was named as the first female coach of the NFL, will not be returning for a full-time role, despite the historical feat. Apparently, her position was merely an internship for the preseason and now that it is coming to an end, the Cardinals have decided that she is no longer needed. Therefore, Welter will not be coaching in a full-time position for the Arizona Cardinals.

According to The Bleacher Report, although the Cardinals decided against hiring Welter for a full-time position, she has nothing negative to say about her experience as the first female coach of the NFL (even though her position was so temporary).

The 37-year-old female coach, who played and coached in both men's and women's professional and semi-professional football leagues, helped coach the inside linebackers during her run with the Cardinals. Guess the Cardinals thought hiring Welter would be too much of a risk in professional football, even though there has not been a single negative report regarding Welter's coaching during her internship.

According to Bob Baum of the Associated Press, Kevin Minter of the Cardinals was impressed with Welter's ability to adapt to the NFL: "She's a great lady," Minter said. "She's helped a lot and she's a stickler about fundamentals and what not. She knows a lot about making you better as a person, too, with the notes she left on your locker, the words of encouragement from what she sees on film. She was like a real good person to feed off of."

At least women are now getting the opportunity to play major coaching roles in the NFL, along with officials, such as Sarah Thomas, (and even in the NBA, with Becky Hammon coaching the San Antonio Spurs' Summer League). Here's what Welter had to say about the changes: "We showed little girls that even in the final frontier of sports that anything is possible," she said. "That is breathtaking to me. It's something that I never thought was possible."
