Queen Elizabeth II Britain’s Longest-Running Monarch: Why Does England Have Royal Family?

Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest-running monarch in Britain on Wednesday, Sept. 9. And while there are many denizens of England thrilled at the Queen's run, some are asking: Why does England still have a royal family? And since it does, why doesn't it do more?

Per a new report from NBC News, it looks as if there's a great divide amongst British folk, with some thinking that the Queen and the royal family have done wonders for the nation, but others think it's time to move on and get rid of the family altogether, or have them do more for the country.

NBC recently dropped a video in which they interviewed a handful of people about their thoughts on Queen Elizabeth II. Check out some of the comments:

"I don't think she's ever used the word 'gay' in a public service. Even when signing the Equal Marriage Bill, she still left that group out," says one man.

"I think she's achieved the fact of making us feel like a community in the UK," claims another.

"I think she's done an amazing job actually. I think she's a been a credit to the country."

And then there are these:

"I think it's probably about time we get rid of the royal family altogether," says one woman.

But this could be the kicker:

"I think this government has done a lot of damage internationally, and it needs to account for that. And I feel like the Queen showing her face and smiling is not fixing any of the problems. In fact, that's just adding to the issues."

Oh boy.
