Tonight is the night we Stephen Colbert fans have been waiting for since January. The world will finally be able to be introduced to the real man. After years of building an audience with a character on Comedy Central's oh-so-wondrous series The Colbert Report, the comedian is stepping into the spotlight as himself and kicking off The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

There remains some skepticism from folks who wonder if Colbert will be as good as longtime host, and legendary comedian, David Letterman. To that, we say that the two are very different, and while Letterman's show was an undoubted staple in comedy history, Colbert is not someone we should underestimate. After all, if you're a fan of his you are well aware that he has been one of the smartest guys on television for quite some time.

Now, being that tonight is the premiere episode of The Late Show, let's take a look at some things we're hoping to see.

SOME BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN JEB BUSH AND COLBERT
If you've been keeping up with Colbert news then you know he and the Republican candidate have a tiny beef occurring at the moment. Apparently Bush was using his upcoming appearance on The Late Show as fodder for getting money from his supporters. Because of this, Colbert decided to do the same.

So, let's hope for some interesting banter.

THE REAL COLBERT
The real Stephen Colbert is admittedly a more curious Stephen Colbert, something you might have seen from the guest lineup that was recently released. It looks as if Colbert is using his time as the host to educate himself by not only speaking with actors (if that's a way to educate yourself?) but also business-folk and innovators alike. As examples, in his first two weeks he's having Tesla's CEO Elon Musk and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick on as guests.

INTELLIGENT SARCASM
There were various times on The Colbert Report in which the host let out his real self—most of the time it was during his interviews. Because of this, we're really hoping for that intelligent sarcasm to make its way out more and more on The Late Show.

Much like how Letterman had no problem telling an interviewee just what he thought of them. Let's hope Colbert does the same!
