The View may have just started its 19th season on daytime television, but already daggers are being thrown by Julie Chen, one of the hosts of its competitor The Talk. Will the iconic talk show rebound from its ratings decline? In an interview on Howard Stern's XM Satellite radio show, the Big Brother host spoke about a recent run-in with The View's former leader Barbara Walters. The legendary broadcast journalist was thinking about returning to the show she started, but didn't know if it was a good idea.

"She was toying with the idea of whether she should go back and save it," Julie said. "The whole room said, 'Are you kidding me?' Everyone told her, 'Barbara that ship has sailed. No one can turn it around. Stay away. It will only hurt your image.'"

"You can't have a part-time leader right that ship," she continued.

When asked if Barbara would be a guest on The View's rival chatfest, the CBS star said ABC wouldn't be happy about it.

"She doesn't want to piss off her bosses because she still has specials on ABC," Julie told the America's Got Talent judge. "And she is a proper lady."

There has been a lot of backstage drama at The View ever since Barbara left the show. Many cast changes have led to a panel of musical chairs with very few stable hosts. Some that have left or been fired include Jenny McCarthy, Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez, and Nicole Wallace.

The only constant has been moderator Whoopi Goldberg, but according to Radar Online, producers of the show have cut back her power immensely.

"Whoopi is no longer being advised about new hires and consultants that are being brought on board to save the show," a source told the gossip site. "Previously, ABC executives would get Whoopi's input, but that is no longer being done. Whoopi has limited access media from coming on the set for visits arranged by the publicity department at ABC. All of that has now changed in a last ditch effort to save the show."

Do you think Barbara will return to the talk show she started 19 years ago to try and save it?
