Reports confirm that a middle school history teacher from Rowlett, Texas was recently suspended for lassoing a young student in class in an attempt to bring his history lesson "alive" on Monday (Feb. 11). While demonstrating his "rodeo cowboy" lassoing techniques, the unidentified male instructor from the Schrade Middle School ended up whipping a seventh grade student and bruising/cutting the child's neck. After complaints from the 13-year-old student's parents and fellow school officials, the Garland Independent School District suspended the teacher and is currently investigating the situation.

According to reports, the unorthodox teacher decided to bring his long, authentic lasso to the North Texas middle school on Monday to share his knowledge of lassoing techniques for cattle drives with students. He made several students run around the classroom as if they were rowdy animals. Things were all fun and dandy, until the teacher attempted to rope the young'ins in. He managed to lasso one student right in the neck, resulting in some scratch and bruise marks. Such "battle wounds" worsened throughout the day, and the child's parents were shocked to hear why their son fell victim to a lassoing incident in school.

"He was visiting with the students, telling the students about how cowboys would corral maverick steers back into the herd," school district spokesman Chris Moore told the Dallas/Fort Worth-based station WFAA. "This is not something that we feel was malicious -- it was not intent... [It was] extremely unfortunate, and extremely poor judgment."

It turns out that a history lesson meant to be fun and engaging can result in some harsh injuries and repercussions.

Now that the case is under investigation, the Rowlett Police Department is looking at possible criminal charges of injury to a child.

According to school officials and teachers, the "rodeo cowboy" history instructer is deeply sorry for his actions and promises never to bring a lasso on school grounds again.

The parents of the 13-year-old student with the bruised neck report that his injuries only worsened on Tuesday. They are shocked and repulsed that such a lassoing incident would ever take place in a middle school.
