In a surprising online "Fifty Shades of Grey" casting poll recently conducted by Wetpaint, "Gossip Girl" star Ed Westwick proved to be a fierce Christian Grey competitor, winning out a whopping 43% of the vote among several other fan-favorites. Do "Fifty Shades" enthusiasts think the handsome, 25-year-old English actor has what it takes to conquer the hot and steamy role of E.L. James' leading man? Meanwhile, in regards to the quiet, reserved Anastasia Steele, 22-year-old actress Emma Roberts has recently caused quite the buzz, revealing that she'd be down to try anything "racy and hot." So what about it, "Fifty Shades" fans, would Westwick and Roberts make the perfect kinky onscreen duo?
While Hollywood heartthrobs like Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer still remain top Christian Grey fan favorites, several "Gossip Girl" fans are definitely pushing for the charming, devilish Upper East Sider Chuck Bass (portrayed by Westwick) to snag the highly-coveted role. Westwick definitely has the handsome look and mysterious attitude down, but is he capable of providing the sexual dominance needed to shed Steele of her shy submissiveness?
Westwick just wrapped up production for a British film adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet" where he plays Romeo's rival Tybalt Capulet... so fans might want to tune it to that when it's released later in October.
Check out this compilation of scenes from "Gossip Girl" posted by a fan on YouTube, showing why Westwick would make the perfect Christian Grey:
As for Roberts (rising star and niece of popular actress Julia Roberts), she once told MTV that she'd be open to taking on the passionate, sexual role of Steele:
"Everyone says read 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I don't really understand. But everyone on the plane was reading it, and I was like, 'I should probably just get it.' I haven't read it, I don't even understand, but yeah, it sounds awesome. Anything racy, hot. Sure, let's get hot."
The young Roberts could make the perfect Anastasia Steele - she has the pretty look and innocent persona down, and she's still working her way up in showbiz. Author E.L. James insists that she doesn't want to cast anyone already attached to a specific genre role... Roberts has starred in several small roles, all very diverse and nonconforming. And she definitely proved her talent in the critically-acclaimed romantic teen drama "The Art of Getting By."
So what do fans think - do Westwick and Roberts have the compatability to portray such sexual and emotional onscreen chemistry?
