Five members of a Baruch College fraternity are facing murder charges due to a hazing-related death that took place back in 2013, which ended the life of Chun Hsien Deng, who went by Michael Deng. Reports note that on Monday, a grand jury decided that alongside the five facing murder charges, 37 brothers – sorry, "bros" – should face a variety of charges ranging from assault to "hindering apprehension."

The New York Times is reporting that the 19-year-old was both "blindfolded" and "made to wear a backpack weighted with sand while trying to make his way across a frozen yard." While doing so, several "brothers" of the Pi Delta Psi fraternity tried to tackle him. With one tackle, he was speared – meaning that he was lifted and dropped to the ground – and later complained of headaches.

The Times further report that when Deng went unconscious, the fraternity members – again, his "brothers" – took their time and "delayed in seeking medical help."

On the grand jury's decision, E. David Christine, Monroe County's DA, claimed that they feel the recommendations set forth by the jury are "sound" and "worthy of action."

The third-degree murder charges are being doled out to Pi Delta Psi members Charles Lai, Kenny Kwan, Raymond Lam, Daniel Li and Sheldon Wong. If sentenced, the quintet could face upwards of 20 years in prison.

The parents of Chun Hsien Deng released a statement on the recommendation:

"Too many families have been devastated as a result of fraternity hazing, with at least one student dying every year from hazing since 1970. Fraternities and their members must be held accountable, and this step by authorities is an important one."

Of course, hazing isn't the only reason people have a problem with fraternities. There's also the little tidbit that they often-times (but no, not always) are absolutely awful filled with absolutely awful people. Need proof? Here you go.
