Director Brad Bird's next film is the highly anticipated sequel to Disney and Pixar's 2004 Academy Award winning movie, The Incredibles. The Tomorrowland filmmaker has been working on this project for quite some time, but this week he shared updates regarding his script. While this doesn't give us an exact release date for the movie, the news is still positive, especially considering Bird explained he doesn't want to make anything close to the superhero movies that are flooding theaters currently. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe in full swing and plenty of projects surrounding the DC Comics characters as well, Brad Bird is trying to avoid oversaturating the movie world with more superhero film tropes. He's trying to rekindle the feelings and story of his 2004 hit, and it looks like he's taking his time to do this.

Speaking with Collider this week (via UPROXX / Slash Film), Bird revealed he's working as fast as he can on the script to be able to announce a release date soon. He also described some of the difficulties he's facing to create a good story.

"There were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out," he explained. "One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there's a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don't want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we're trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us."
