At Survivor Series 2014, Sting made his first appearance in WWE. Fast forward to almost one year later, and The Icon is getting his first shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship when he faces Seth Rollins at Night of Champions. But the title may continue to elude him because in an interview with Rolling Stone, Sting reveals that he's just in WWE to put over younger talent.

The magazine asked the 56-year-old wrestler, real name Steve Borden, what would happen if he loses to Rollins on Sunday and fails to capture the title.

"I had my time. There's no question about that," he replied. "For a guy my age to be where I am right now is, to me, next to impossible. And yet, I'm here. It's not about Sting, not anymore. You're asking a straight-up question, I'll give ya a straight-up answer. That's it, and I am just fine with that."

Plenty of fans are on board with Sting's title shot here for the nostalgia factor, but it's reassuring to hear that the man himself has no delusions. He's not expecting to win the belt and hold it until WrestleMania. He might win it just to put that feather in his cap, but his time at the top has long passed.

When asked, Sting also addressed his promo from a few weeks ago in which he put over Triple H, his opponent at WrestleMania 31, while building to his match with Seth Rollins. Some fans complained about how much Sting talked about Hunter during the promo, but Sting more or less called it a non-issue.

"I don't pay attention a lot of times to what's out there, so this is the first time I'm hearing any news of that," he said. "I don't think there's anyone who's going to carry all that to Night of Champions and think about that, because the bottom line is, my focus is Seth Rollins. Triple H is Triple H, and he's worth the put-over."
