The Season 3 premiere of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs September 29, and the official description for the second episode, "Purpose in the Machine," has now been released. [SPOILERS to Follow]

Comic Book Movie has posted the synopsis, which you can check out below:

“'Purpose in the Machine' – Fitz and the team enlist the aid of an Asgardian to unlock the secrets of the ancient monolith that swallowed Simmons, and Agent May is at a crossroads in her personal and professional life, on 'Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network."

Guest stars include Blair Underwood as Dr. Andrew Garner, Daniel J. Wolfe as Lord Manzini, Peter MacNicol as Professor Elliott Randolph, Daz Crawford as Kebo, Spencer Treat Clark as Alexander, Alex Hyde-White as Lord Thornally,Piers Stubbs, James Hong, and Darius Cottrell. DJ Doyle wrote the episode and and Kevin Tancharoen directed.

The description for the Season 3 premiere mentioned toward the end that Fitz would go on a mission to find out what happened to Simmons after she mysteriously disappeared. The audience, of course, saw her disappear into that mysterious black goo that came out of the artifact. Based on this Episode 2 description, it looks like the team has figured out what happened to her.

Ordinarily, the term "Asgardian" equates to Lady Sif, but Jaimie Alexander has a new show called Blindspot on NBC that just debuted to stellar ratings, so it's doubtful she'll be showing up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. anytime soon. So which of the characters from the Thor movies will show up? Or will it be a brand new character?
