Reports confirm that two Texas women were found guilty of kidnapping an infant boy and then hiding and neglecting him for the next eight years on Tuesday (Feb. 19). Gloria Walker currently faces close to 40 years in prison, while her daughter Krystle Tanner could serve up to 16 years in prison for the kidnapping and neglect of eight-year-old Miguel Morin. Boston.com reports that Walker was also found guilty of injury to a child, while Tanner was found guilty of the less severe charge of reckless injury to a child.

ABC News claims that in their defense, Walker and Tanner insisted that Morin's mother (Auboni Champion-Morin) actually sold the two women her child back in 2004. Tanner babysat Miguel and snatched him from his Houston apartment prior to his first birthday. She and her mother then renamed him Jaquan. Tanner (originally the young boy's babysitter), stated that she never knew Morin was considered kidnapped, or that anyone was ever looking for him. The women's defense also claimed that Morin's mother never cooperated with police during the investigation. Even so, it only took the East Texas jury two hours to deliberate and come back with the guilty charges. They believed the prosecution's allegations that Tanner snatched Miguel from the Morin's Houston apartment prior to his first birthday - the women then renamed him Jaquan.

After the kidnapping, Walker and Tanner ultimately hid the young boy from the public for eight years. According to the Inquisitr, the "injury to a child" convictions stem from prosecutors detailing a level of neglect the women demonstrated while they were hiding him. Several times during the lengthy period of hiding and neglect, the women allegedly refused to give Morin medicine that he needed to remain healthy.

During the trial, Walker insisted that she wasn't to blame for the neglect, because she made very little contact with the boy during the eight years of entrapment. She was allegedly dealing with her own health issues at the time. Tanner contradicted her mother's testimony, claiming that Walker did spend the majority of the time with the boy.

In the prosecutions' closing statement, District Attorney Kevin Dutton argued:

"If Ms. Walker and Ms. Tanner had a right to little Miguel, why wasn't he in school? Why didn't you get the rest of his immunizations? Why didn't you take him to the dentist? They knew they didn't have that right. They knew they couldn't put that baby out in the public eye."

According to reports, Walker was sentenced to 30 years for injury to a child and eight years for kidnapping. Tanner was also sentenced to eight years for kidnapping and eight years for reckless injury to a child. All sentences must be served concurrently.

The young Morin has been informed of the true identity of his parents and siblings. Since being found, he's been attending weekly joint therapy sessions with his real family.
