British boy band One Direction is taking over the world with their new Comic Relief single topping the charts around the world.

The single that was released just days earlier has topped charts in some 63 countries, EntertainmentWise reported. The new single is a mash up of the Blondie classic "One Way Or Another" and The Undertones' anthem. The single has topped charts of U.S., UK, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Singapore, Egypt and New Zealand. Red Nose Day is not popular outside UK and yet One Direction members were able to pull off this success.

There have been many such Comic Relief singles in the past like Westlife's Uptown Girl, The Spice Girls' Who Do You Think You Are and Boyzone's When The Going Gets Tough. But none have been such a hit as the One Direction single.

"If anyone can keep the likes of Harlem Shake from the top spot, One Direction can," said Martin Talbot, managing director, Official Charts Company.

The royalties generated from the single will go to charity funding and the band will not be earning even a cent out of it, Mirror reported.

The chief executive of Comic Relief, Kevin Cahill, said he was thrilled by the song's success, "We couldn't have asked for a better band to record the official Red Nose Day single in our 25th year."

"It's an absolute coup and the first time ever we have a massive global selling single for Comic Relief."
