Nicki Minaj has officially signed on for a new television series, as the Pinkprint rapper will be starring in an ABC Family comedy based on her own life. The “Anaconda” hit-maker partnered up with the major network to make the big announcement, revealing that the project will be a scripted comedy series, starring Minaj, as well as her partaking the position of the executive producer.

The project is being done through Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, with a pilot set to be filmed in the Young Money rapper’s hometown of Jamaica, Queens, being that it is based on her own life and upbringing in the NYC borough in the 1990’s.

ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development, Karey Burke, talked about the network’s decision to move forward with a project featuring Ms. Minaj:

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

She told the network in a statement, writing, “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

This certainly will be easy for Minaj to blend right into the acting world, as the musician has a background in acting, being that she attended LaGuardia High School to study in their performing arts program when she was a teenager. She has also starred in multiple skits for Saturday Night Live, as well as a role in The Other Woman, which hit theaters in 2014 with Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann.

The pilot for the currently unnamed series is set to be shot this winter, with hopes that it will get picked up in to a continuous series.
