On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards went before a congressional committee to discuss her organization. After she was done presenting her case, Congressman Jason Chaffetz interrupted her time and time again after asking her a question. And when Richards revealed her salary ($520,000!?), he appeared to get a little snippy. Perhaps jealous? Who knows. Either way, when the attention turned to Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, well, she apologized and said she had never seen someone "beating up on a woman" so much in all her years of congress.
Oh boy, things just got awkward.
"Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I would first like to register my opposition and my objection to the chairman beating up on a woman, on our witness today for making a good salary," Maloney started off with. "The entire time I've been in Congress, I've never seen a witness beaten up and questioned about their salary."
Maloney further noted that Ms. Richards has a "distinguished organization" that lends health care to millions of United States citizens around the country. "I find it totally inappropriate and discriminatory."
She then commented on the rallies occurring on Tuesday in support of Planned Parenthood and Richards. Upon being asked if she was aware of them all, Richards noted that she was and could not wait to leave and join them.
So, was Chaffetz out of line? Check it out:
