Director George Miller is one of the most sought, visionary filmmakers around, which became even more evident in 2015 with the release of Mad Max: Fury Road. While we know that the director is working on sequels to the Tom Hardy rebooted franchise, rumors around the highly anticipated, live-action adaptation of iconic manga and anime Akira have the director's name attached! Will he direct the movie? Keep reading to see what Miller has to say about working on the Akira movie below!

Miller and Warner Bros. Studios have a great professional relationship, and will continue this with a number of films that are currently in the works. Thanks to a new interview with Top Gear, we've learned that Miller has two scripts confirmed for more Mad Max sequels, but he's also interested in working on other projects.

"I hope the next film I make is a very, very small film without any special effects and not many stunts," Miller told Digital Spy earlier this month, which definitely doesn't sound like Akira, unfortunately.

"There was talk of it, but I've got so many things on my dance card, I don't have the time to do everything," he told Yahoo! Movies this week, according to IGN. "I don't know where that came from. I'm a huge fan of anime and the precision of that and to some degree Manga, even though I don't read Japanese, but just the aesthetic of it. So Akira might have been one of the many movies but it certainly wasn't one that directly influenced Mad Max."

This might be disappointing news, but we're still excited for more Mad Max movies. So this isn't terrible news, right? Another director linked to Akira is none other than Christopher Nolan!
