Season 2 of the Batman prequel series, Gotham, continues on Fox. In last night's Episode 3, Twitter had lots to say about Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie)'s shocking confrontation as he went face-to-face against Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), who may or may not be the Joker, the clown prince of crime!

In our previous recap, following Theo Galavan (James Frain)'s orders, the Maniax launched their first strike against the city. Because of their last relationship, Barbara (Erin Richards) lured Jim away from precinct before Jerome led another attack. After killing every other officer in the precinct, Jerome and Sarah Essen played their own mid game. By the time Jim returned, he found Sarah dying on the floor.

In our recent recap, while Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) watched Alfred (Sean Pertwee) put the moves on Leslie (Morena Baccarin), Jerome and Barbara held a charity benefit hostage. As Jerome held a knife to Bruce's throat, Theo switched sides, pretending to be the hero, and stabbed in the throat. Because the media played his laughter nonstop, Jerome's insanity spread across Gotham, inspiring the psychotic child who would become the Joker.

In an interview with TV Line, Monaghan explains the twist, "I think he's the Joker in that he represents the idea, the greater concept. And somewhere, some kid or some person watched [his videos/the news coverage] and it burrowed into their mind, and one day it will snap and take them over. The idea of this person will possess someone completely new. So, I love that idea - something about it really is chilling and excited me when I read the episode."

Check out what Twitter had to say:

@wpgaurav tweets, "Ahhh... #Shameless! A great artist departed from #Gotham. Joker couldn't be much better."

@JMauceriII adds, "@Gotham Was phenomenal til end. Creating a Joker ideology is ambitious but cannot succeed. Jerome was IT & CM embodied the role. Good luck."

@ZMaggs420 states, "@Gotham I can't believe what happened last night!! I swore Jerome was the joker lol."

@AverageJoeArt notices, "So...I guess Jerome is NOT The Joker? Anyone catch the blood across his mouth in the shape of a smile? #Gotham"

@NoleCrispy mentions, "I think I've enjoyed more Jerome as Jerome. So, I give credits to @Gotham for creating a "Joker" that's better than many other real Jokers."

@astoldby_shy  acknowledges, "whoever is actually The Joker gotta step their game WAAAAAAY up bc @CameronMonaghan doesn't seem like he can be topped. #Gotham"

Gotham Season 2 continues on Fox Tuesdays at 8pm.

Readers, what did you think of Jerome's death?
