Mariah Carey is making a Christmas movie. The "Hero" singer has signed on to both direct and star in a film for the holiday season. The legendary vocalist is reportedly working on the Hallmark movie, titled A Christmas Melody, with New Line, and will may be reportedly starring alongside Mean Girls star, Lacey Chabert, who played the role of Gretchen Weiners in the popular film.

Carey reportedly came up with the idea, and eventually brought it to her close friend Brett Ratner, who is set to be teaming up with writers David Diamond and David Weissman. The trio has worked closely together last on the Nicholas Cage movie, The Family Man, back in 2000. Other members of the RatPac group are set to executive produce and oversee production on set.

So far, not too many details on the film are being released, but from the looks of photos from set, production seems to have already started. Reports say the theme is about “how the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest and most authentic feelings,” according to Deadline.

Being that Carey’s biggest international hit is the holiday-themed track, “All I Want For Christmas,” it makes sense that there are plans to include music from her, as well as other potential artists.

The reason for Chabert starring in the film is that she happens to be Carey’s favorite character from Mean Girls, which is one of her favorite films. Apparently, the actress was more than happy to star in the upcoming movie for Carey. Hopefully more details on the film will be released in the future, such as a potential release date. It’s hard to determine whether the film will air on Hallmark this coming holiday season, or if fans will have to stay at the edges of their seats until the following year.
