18-year-old singer-songwriter Jake Bugg might not be as big as boy band One Direction but that doesn’t mean he won’t call them “terrible” in Short List magazine, thus enticing Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson to start a Twitter war with him. Upon being told that 1D members are a new era of rock stars because of their antics off stage, Bugg flipped out, taking the comment as jab at his own music credibility.
Bugg responded to the statement with his own:

"Who the f**k is saying they're the closest thing to rock stars we have these days? Oh, I'm pretty sure they have a good laugh. But it's easy to, isn't it? When you don't have to write any songs. People call them the new Beatles because they broke America, but that don't mean a thing. I mean, One Direction must know that they're terrible. They must know. Calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it."

Clearly Jake Bugg is mad at how One Direction is seen around the world and goes as far as saying that they basically are not credible musicians at all. But that is not exactly true. Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles have song writing credits on a large amount of tracks off of Up All Night and Take Me Home. There is a chance that Bugg has no idea about this fact, though.

Needless to say, One Direction fans attacked the songwriter over Twitter with messages ranging from “that’s not cool” to “who is Jake Bugg?” and so on. Lots and lots of tweets. Even Bugg’s fans got in on the fight by defending the singer over the social network. One Direction members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson also addressed the Bugg quote with the following tweets:

To be completely honest, Tomlinson's tweet holds a lot of ground in this argument. There is no reason for an artist like Jake Bugg to attack a successful pop act like One Direction other than publicity. I am actually a fan of Bugg and I think he could have done well enough to leave this alone. Maybe just brush the comment about them being rock stars off or maybe even embraces it in a tongue and cheek kind of way. Just some ideas, Jake. Also, despite never having heard any of their songs, 1D seems like a cool bunch of guys. Anyone else agree?
