Alfonso Ribeiro on ‘Fresh Prince’ Reboot Rumors: Will Smith Starring in Show?

Fresh Prince of Bel Air fans will have to keep holding their breath for a Fresh Prince reboot to happen. According to Alfonso Ribeiro, there is no reboot in the works right now. Rumors about Will Smith developing a new take on the story have recently circulated, however Ribeiro says that if it did happen, it would be an entirely new family with its own storyline.

"I've heard the rumors. It's not exciting to me because I know it ain't gonna happen," Ribeiro said. "And if it happened, it wouldn't be Fresh Prince. It would be something that's taking the story of the show and having all new people do something. To me, that's not Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. There's one Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Is Will Smith starring in it? No. Then it ain't no Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

Although we may not see a Fresh Prince reunion with the entire original cast, as James Avery (who played the Banks family patriarch, Phil) died in 2013, Ribeiro did share what he thought his character, Carlton Banks, would be doing now.

"He's not president yet," he said. "He's still too young. But he's absolutely- he's a lawyer, you know. He went to Princeton and he came back to Bel-Air and he's living the life of a big-time lawyer following in his dad's footsteps in Bel-Air. That's what I would say is happening with Carlton."

Ribeiro has been very busy lately. Longtime television host, Tom Bergeron passed him the baton to host America's Funniest Home Videos. The news was announced after he won the mirrorball trophy on Dancing With The Stars last season.

"Taking over for Tom is certainly a difficult job, but one that I am not nervous about," said Ribeiro. "The one thing we've talked about is that Tom wanted me to be the guy to replace him, to take over for him. There's a lot of confidence in that."

Ribeiro recently hosted DWTS temporarily so that Bergeron could spend time with his father, who was on his deathbed.
