For over 40 years now Playboy magazine has gained a name for itself based almost entirely on nudity. Created by Hugh Hefner in 1953, the first lovely lady to be featured on the over of Playboy was none other than Marilyn Monroe. Known for it's brightly colored pages filled with sultry photos of beautiful naked women, it would be tough to imagine Playboy without any full-frontal nudity. However, time truly does have a way of changing things. Earlier this week, Playboy announced that starting next March, their magazine will be undergoing a complete redesign; full frontal nudity excluded.

Infamous Hollywood playboy, Hugh Hefner, met last month with the Chief Content Officer of Playboy to discuss the concept of no longer featuring full nudity in the magazine. In turn, Hefner, who still remains Editor in Chief of the publication, decided to sign off on the decision to dismiss full frontal nudity from the pages.

According to People, the magazine's CEO Scott Flanders says that their decision to give nudity the boot is due largely to the rise of internet pornography. According to the NY Times, Playboy's circulation has plummeted from a whopping 5.6 million in 1975, to roughly 800,000. With lude images and videos at the click of a mouse, Playboy just simply isn't in as great of a demand.

Long live the days of gorgeous naked women adorning the pages of Playboy.

The redesign is said to embrace a more modern approach and to be PG-13 at best. It's a good thing the magazine was always known for it's excellent reading material as well, we suppose! It sure will be interesting to see what they come up with next.
