Earlier today we learned that Scott Weiland was fired from Stone Temple Pilots, the grunge-lite band that he founded in 1986. And Weiland apparently found out about it the same way we did, he read it in the news.

Weiland released a statement regarding his supposed termination that expressed his confusion and threatened legal action against the other members of STP.

"I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press," Weiland said. "
Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."

The other members of Stone Temple Pilots have yet to respond.

Weiland's abrupt statement matches the curtness of the Stone Temple Pilots statement that revealed the split with Weiland, which simply read "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."

While members of STP have offered no comment as to why the wish to part ways with the founder and lead singer of thier band, it is believed to stem from the fact that Weiland is playing hits from classic Pilots' albums Core and Purple on his solo tour.

Weiland had promised back in 2012 that STP would play throwback gigs where they played nothing but their old hits, but that fell through after the other band members resoundingly rejected the idea.
