While some might say the king has returned upon hearing news that the original creator of The OfficeRicky Gervais, is heading back to the Golden Globes to host in 2016, others might find themselves appalled by the idea. Of course, the latter is largely due to the amount of criticism Gervais came under after delivering "controversial" – or as Robert Downey Jr. put it, "mean-spirited" – material the past couple of times he's done it. Either way, one thing is for sure, people on both sides will most likely watch.

It's being reported that NBC has officially brought Gervais back to host the 2016 Golden Globes. It'll be the fourth time the Derek star has done so, with his first being in 2010, followed swiftly by 2011 and 2012. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey graciously stepped in for the last three years, largely to strong reviews.

Gossip Cop reports that NBC's entertainment chairman, Robert Greenblatt, claimed that the network is "excited" to have Gervais back. Adding to his comment, the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Associated, Lorenzo Soria, told audiences to "fasten your seatbelts" because Gervais will officially have the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel located in Beverly Hills, California, on the night of the Globes.

Much of the controversy surrounding Gervais's hosting gig was the opinion that he had crossed the line several times when he poked fun at the stars in the audience.

You tell us, too far?

Deadline notes that Gervais's choice to accept the host position may come as a little bit of a surprised due to the fact that he once states that he'd "never host the Globes again," according to the publication. Of course, given the impression he's left on the awards ceremony, maybe he thought he ought to give it another go.

Or, well, perhaps they're paying him a lot of money.
