The latest episode of The Walking Dead contained one of the more shocking moments in the series' history when Glenn (Steven Yeun) fell into a herd of walkers and seemingly got his guts ripped out. But is he really dead? Showrunner Scott Gimple played coy about that in an interview after the show.

Immediately after the show aired, many fans online speculated that Glenn was not actually dead. The supposed proof ranges from the idea that Nicholas fell on top of Glenn to the placement of the intestines in the scene (some claim that they are too high to be coming out of Glenn's body). Fans also pointed to the way the scene was shot and edited.

Gimple spoke to Michael Ausiello of TVLine and addressed some of the speculation. Obviously, he would not definitively state if Glenn is alive or dead, but he did talk about the structure of the scene.

"It was shot the way it was shot and it was edited the way it was edited and that is always deliberate," he said. "I spend a lot of time on these cuts, so take that as you will."

Ausiello asked Gimple if he has any concerns about backlash if Glenn does turn out to be alive and this scene turns out to be nothing more than misdirection.

"I definitely want viewers to have an emotional experience either way," he replied. "There are twists and turns, and bad things happen. Ultimately, it’s all part of a bigger story. I hope that the audience will just wait to see the greater story and see how it all plays out. They’re kind of stopping in the middle of the movie, which they have to because there’s a week between the reels. But we’re still in the middle of the movie."

Finally, Gimple assured us that we wouldn't have to wait all that long to find out what happened to Glenn.

"It’ll be in the first half of the season," he said. "And there are only five episodes left."

What do you make of Gimple's remarks? Do you think Glenn is dead? Let us know in the comments section below.
