The Kansas City Royals made a roster change by adding 20-year-old Raul A. Mondesi to potentially play in the World Series against the New York Mets.

As reported by ESPN, the Royals selected the contract of Mondesi from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday.

Now that Mondesi's been added to the roster for the World Series against the New York Mets, he could become the first player to make his major league debut in the World Series.

Mondesi is the son of former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Raul Mondesi. Mondesi is an infielder, who will be replacing Terrance Gore on the Royals' postseason roster.

According Royals manager Ned Yost, the team decided to add Mondesi to the roster to create more flexibility. This is apparently very important for the Royals considering the fact that the series will be played under National League rules for Games 3, 4 and 5 during the New York shift. Mondesi can play shortstop and second base, as he brings the element of speed to the Royals' roster.

As reported by Milb.com, during his time with the Northwest Arkansas this season, the 20-year-old hit .243 with a .651 OPS in 81 games as he stole 19 bases in 25 attempts.

"Gore is a tremendous base stealer, but he's kind of specialist at that," Yost said, according to Miami Herald. "Mondesi can do a lot of things. He can play the field, really well, shortstop, second base. He's a switch-hitter. He can hit a fastball, he can bunt and he can run."

If Mondesi really does get to play in the World Series Games 3-5, he and the Royals will be making history. (Especially given the fact that his father never reached the World Series!)

"(Yost) said I've got to be ready maybe as a pinch-runner or hitter or defense," Mondesi said, as reported by The Kansas City Star. "If I got a chance, I'm going to be in the game. So I'm ready for that."
