Another summer festival lineup has been unveiled today: the Free Press Summer Fest! Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year in Houston, Texas, the fest will take place from June 1-2 at Eleanor Tinsley Park, and this versatile lineup is one not to be missed. Including artists like "recently reunited electro-pop duo the Postal Service, soulful and gospel-tinged garage rock band Alabama Shakes, gypsy rock band Gogol Bordello and rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis" there really is something for for everyone to enjoy.

For alterna-rock, punk, folk rock, pop and electro-dubstep fans, performers on the bill include: TV on the Radio, Arctic Monkeys, Matt & Kim, Of Monsters and Men, Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, Milo Greene, Mat & Kim, Cat POwer, Grace Potter, Passion Pit, Iggy and the Stooges and many more.

For hip-hop fans, 2-Chainz and Kitty Pryde will be in attendance as well as Geto Boys and Devin the Dude. More will be revealed soon.

And because no summer festival would be complete without some Caribbean music, according to the Houston Chronicle, Virginia reggae band SOJA will perform. Also fitting for an outdoor festival is Venezuelan disco-funk band Los Amigos Invisibles.

The festival is assembled and executed by the weekly Free Press Houston and local promoter Pegstar Concerts. How did they assemble this lineup?

"We talk about every band that exists," says FPH publisher Omar Afra, who puts on the festival with his partner, Pegstar founder Jagi Katial. "If they're part of contemporary culture from 1960 to 2013, then they're part of our discussion."

"Jagi and I feel like one commonality is these are all artists who put on a good live show. That's what we keep in mind, the live show, because that's what people come for."

In addition to the live show, art is another focus of the FPSF show. As their website states, with Eleanor Tinsley Park and Allen Parkway as their canvases, it's a chance for Houston and area artists to feature works before tens of thousands of fest goers.

In its first five years, the festival has seen its attendance explode, from an estimated 30,000 in 2009 to an estimated 80,000 last year, according to the Houston Chronicle. Weekend general admission passes are available for $67.50 pre-sale, $95 at the gate.

This is a big year for Free Press Houston as its is celebrating its 10th anniversary. "Ten years publishing the paper, five years putting on the festival," Afra says, "it's pretty incredible for a bunch of local scoundrels."
