A New York husband and his pregnant wife died in a car accident early Sunday morning riding in a cab that was hit by a BMW. The taxi driver survived and is in stable condition and their premature infant boy was born after inducing labor to save him.

Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering blunt-force trauma when a BMW slammed into the taxicab that they were in. A witness at the scene says that Raizy Glauber was thrown from the car and landed under a parked tractor-trailer.

The driver and passenger of the BMW fled the scene and are being searched by New York police. The couple had reportedly called for a cab service en route to the hospital for the birth of their son, but police only confirmed that it was related to victim's pregnancy. Members of the Orthodox Jewish community arrived at the scene and told news outlets that the baby will be taken care of by the supportive Jewish community

Isaac Abraham, who knew the young couple called the deaths "a tragedy beyond (belief) just coming off a joyous holiday as Purim" suffering in death when trying to welcome a new life. A funeral for the Jewish couple was held immediately Sunday afternoon as their religion calls for the dead to be buried as soon as possible.
