WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has suffered a severe knee injury on the company's European tour and will be out for six to nine months. The company has announced a tournament at Survivor Series to crown a new champion.

Rollins tore his ACL, MCL and medial meniscus in his right knee during WWE's stop in Dublin on Wednesday night. The injury occurred during a match with Kane, and Rollins actually was able to powerbomb the 300+ pound veteran even after the injury occurred.

Interestingly, former WWE and current ESPN employee Jonathan Coachman broke the news on Twitter on Thursday afternoon, and the company confirmed the injury shortly thereafter.

Here is the official statement from WWE.com on the injury.

"WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has torn his right ACL, MCL and medial meniscus, and will not be able to defend the title against Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. A tournament to determine a new champion will instead take place at the event.

As first reported on Twitter by ESPN, Rollins suffered the injury Wednesday night at a WWE Live Event in Dublin, Ireland, and is expected to miss six to nine months of action.

Details surrounding the Survivor Series tournament have not been finalized. The event takes place Sunday, Nov. 22, and will air live only on WWE Network."

This is obviously a crushing blow to WWE, as Rollins had been doing some amazing work as a heel champion and was poised to enter what would have been a great feud with Roman Reigns. He'll also miss WrestleMania 32 barring a miracle, which is horribly disappointing.

But on the positive side, we could get some interesting stories out of this tournament, so let's see what happens.
