MTV is already making changes to Season 2 of their horror/comedy drama, Scream. Based on the Scream movies by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, will there be a "change in direction" when Emma Duval (Willa Fitzgerald), Bella Thorne (Nina Patterson) and Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blaire) return?

As we previously mentioned, the MTV drama kicked off after a cyber-bullying incident resulted in a brutal murder of Nina (Thorne). The shocking violence stirs up memories of a killing spree from the past. A group of new teens, led by Emma Duval (Fitzgerald), find themselves being stalked by a masked killer who's out for blood. The Lakewood serial killer, aka Ghostface, actually turned out to be Piper Shaw (Blaire).

According to Variety, the freshmen drama's showrunners will be stepping down from their roles on the teen slasher show. Former showrunners Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia will not be returning to their posts when production for the sophomore season is about to begin. Blotevogal will remain on the series as a consultant, but Paglia is leaving the series entirely. Does this mean whatever plans, such as the rumored return of Nina, that these two set up before has been scrapped?

In an interview with TV Line, Blotevogel had already discussed her plans for Emma in the season season, "Going into Season 2, she's going to be a character with a lot more information. She's probably going to be more closed-off, more defensive. But she's also going to be stronger. I think of Sarah Connor, going from Terminator to T2, in that she's this fresh-faced innocent in the first one, and by the second one - not that we're going to see Emma doing pull-ups and assembling rifles or anything - she's a character who's been through the wringer. [Emma]'s going to be a little more guarded."

The former showrunner adds, "Her strength has been tested, and her relationship with her mother is definitely going to have to evolve. And even though we get the sense that she and Kieran have bonded, she is still going to be more guarded, romantically. "

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Gans and Richard Register (Make It or Break It, Celebrity Deathmatch) have been annouced as the new showrunners for the second season.

No word yet on when Scream Season 2 will premiere on MTV.
