Candidate Beaten And Burned, Marco McMillian First Openly Gay Candidate Brutally Killed, Lawrence Reed, 22 Charged With Murder

Mississippi mayoral candidate, Marco McMillian was brutally beaten and burned. According to the victim's godfather, Carter Womack, the Coahoma County coroner gave the, further informational bout their loved one's death, but failed to comment to the press. Both Coroner Scotty Meredith and spokesman for the Coahoma County Sheriff's Department either declined or did not have any immediate comment.

According to the associated press the mayoral prospect had several bruises and burns on one area of his body. There hasn't been information leaked about his cause of death and toxicology tests are still pending.

Last week, relatives of McMillian were told that he was dragged his body under a fence and left by the Mississippi River levee. The 34-year-old was the first openly gay candidate to run for mayor of Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta, "We feel that this was not a random act of violence based on the condition of the body when it was found," his campaign said in a statement.

Lawrence Reed was charged for the McMillian's murder. The 22-year-old was driving McMillians's SUV, which he crashed in a head on accident on U.S. Highway. Currently, Reed is being held without bond Monday in Mississippi.
