'Red Coat Girl' Traumatized: Oliwia Dabrowska Says She Was Ashamed Being In Schindler's List, Broke Steven Spielberg Promise And Watched 'Horrible' Movie Before 18-Years-Old [Photo]

Oliwia Dabrowska, 24, who played the little girl in Schindler's List says the movie traumatized her after watching it. The actress was three years old when she played the role in the black and white movie and was remembered by being the only person to appear in color in the 1993 film.

Instead of bragging about playing in the renowned film, and bragging to her friends, she felt the exact opposite,  "I was ashamed of being in the movie and angry with my mother and father when they told anyone about the part."

Dabrowska said that she wasn't praised for her role in the film and was tortured by well-meaning adults and classmates. "People said: 'It must be so important to you, you must know so much about the Holocaust' I was frustrated by it all."

The first time Dabrowska saw the film was when she was 11 and broker her promise to director Steven Spielberg who insisted she waited until she was 18 to watch the horrifying depictions of the Holocaust.

According to the Times Dabrowska said, "I kept it secret for a long, long time, though at high school people got to know on the Internet." The child actress added, "'It was too horrible. I could not understand much, but I was sure that I didn't want to watch ever again in my life."

The movie based on the real life actions of Oskar Schindler who spent his fortune saving nearly 1,200 Jewish workers by bribing and telling Nazi's that the workers -who were old, disabled and young- were valuable employees.

Eventually, Dabrowska realized that she should have listened and waited until she was older to watch the movie, "I realized I had been part of something I could be proud of. Spielberg was right: I had to grow up to watch the film."

The Schindler's List, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. The film won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, seven BAFTAs and three Golden Globes.
