Donald Trump, Oscar de la Hoya, Micky Ward Inductees in NJ Boxing Hall of Fame 2015

Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump was a no show last night at the 46th New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame Dinner and Inductees Ceremony, but was honored alongside Oscar "Golden Boy" de la Hoya and Micky "Irish" Ward. There were twelve honorees however, two of the most influential were Commissioner Larry Hazzard Sr, who was named, "Man of the Year" and the International Boxing Federation president and chief executive officer, Daryl Peoples.

No worries, Philly.com reports, "He did send a donation," says NJBHOF's president Henry Hascup about Trump.

Guess you are wondering why The Donald was inductee? NJ.com reported on Hall's announcement said about the presidential candidate, "During the 1980's Atlantic City was the first capital of the Boxing World and Donald Trump had a lot to do with it, including many of Mike Tyson fights." He'll be inducted alongside Mickey Ward, known best for three epic battles against Arturo Gatti, which The Fighter flick was based on his life.


Lowell Massachusetts native Ward was in fact the headliner and a popular junior welterweight for some twenty-two ights in New Jersey's unofficial casino capital, Atlantic City. Perhaps you might remember "Irish" Micky, played by Mark Wahlberg in the two-time Academy Award winning biopic mentioned above?

Although "Golden Boy" de la Hoya is a Los Angeles native who holds ten world titles in six weight classes, his ties to USA Boxing Association spans over 25 years. In 1991, he was named "Boxer of the Year" by the organization. He is now a a well known boxing promoting and is gearing up for the Nov 21 pay-per-view match between client, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.


This years "New Jersey Amateur Boxer of the Year" was given to two deserving candidates, Michael Hilton and Shadashia Green.

Some of the industry's most notable inductees honored were officials, trainers, announcers and boxers including Philly's own Bernard Hopkins' very first trainer, the late Bouie Fisher, USBA Middleweight champion, Curtis Parker and boxing officia,l George Hill.

USA boxing official Alex Geraldino told MStars News, "Tonight is a night to honor all of those who has made great contributions to boxing. Our president, Henry Hascup and his wife have been dedicated to the sport for many years and tonight's successful ceremony was mainly because of them. Our boxing organization is proud to have them at the helm."
