Singer-songwriter Bruno Mars has come to the defense of rapper Kanye West. West has been taking a lot of criticism lately for his rant during a performance at the Hammersmith Apollo, London.

West performed in London Feb 23 and 24, 2013 and came under heavy criticism from the media after he ranted about singer Justin Timberlake's come back performance and his new single, "Suit & Tie." He ranted, "I got love for Hov [Jay-Z], but I ain't f**king with that Suit & Tie," Missinfo.tv reported. West also ranted about "Taylor Swift beat Beyonce at the Grammys? Beyonce be dancing in heels and s**t."

But this rant has been defended by Mars, which comes in as a surprise. He told Capital FM during an interview that the rapper must be allowed to speak his mind.

"I don't think you can be mad at a guy that speaks his opinion - whether you disagree with it or not."

"It's hard being in the spotlight, you're doing interviews and shows, and you want to just be politically correct so people like you and buy your albums. It takes a lot for someone to be honest in these kind of situations," he continued.

"That is what Kanye West is. He is going to speak his mind, you might not agree with everything that he says, but you know what the guy's telling it like it is in his mind. You can't be mad at that."

"At the end of the day, for me it's about his music. I think he's one of the best. I think his albums are incredible and he's pushing the bar [with] every album," he added, Capital FM reported.

Mars also revealed that he is a big fan of West.

Mars released his second studio album "Unorthodox Jukebox," Dec. 11, 2012.
