From actress and producer Alyssa Milano (Charmed), comes the exciting penultimate installment to her comic book from BOOM! Studios/Archaia Entertaiment. Hacktivist Volume 2 #5 is an exciting read from by co-writers Colin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, and artist Marcus To.

As we previously mentioned, in our review of the first and second issue, Nate and Ed were forced to reunite after being separated for awhile. Unfortunately, there is a new breed of hackers out there causing all sorts of mayhem. What burns Nate and Ed is that the group is calling themselves sve_urs3lf, using their former handle to commit terrorist attacks.

In our MStars News interview, Milano discussed how creativity comes about from reading and drawing, "I think that, first of all, kids are so natural at their creativity because nothing is stifled. And I always believe that that creativity should be encouraged. And I certainly try to encourage that creativity with my kids."

The script by Kelly and Lanzing deliver thought-provoking dialogue throughout the narrative. In this political thriller, the engaging writing asks readers, "Do we have the right to commit torture?" It's not an easy question to answer, which is why the writers use Nate to provide reactions from both pro and anti perspectives. Then the writers twist the topical metaphor with a shocking cliffhanger.

I was caught by surprised with the artwork by Marcus To. During the torture scene, we have about 32 panels, which all flows smoothly in continuity. The panels are captured in rhythm, so that your eyes can follow along very easily. The panel layout features extreme close-ups  to emphasize a point, either the action itself or a facial expression.

 Rating: Must Buy

As always, Hacktivist Vol. 2 #5 delivers a timely message about safety vs. freedom, without having to be preachy, but always up for the challenge to debate.
