President Hugo Chavez Has Died Tuesday. Vice President Nicolas Maduro asked the Venezulaeans to remain respectful during their time of mourning the late President, "We must unite now more than ever."

The South American country and supporters have poured into a Caracas square after Chavez's death was confirmed. Maduro said that plans for the President's massive funeral will be announce in days to come and did not confirm about any special elections that will be held to replace Chavez, "Our people can count on having a government of men and women committed to protecting them," Maduro said.

In support of the Venezuelan constitution, the military is in a "process of deploying ... to ensure the safety of all Venezuelans" during the transition process after the president's death, said Adm. Diego Molero, Venezuela's defense minister. According to the constitution, Venezuela will call for new elections within 30 day. However, politicians are struggling to determine who will resume control until a new president is found.

Two top officials who were close to the Venezuelan president, Maduro and National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello are both strongly supported by Molero, and one of them may assume the role of president until further notice.

In June 2011, Chavez first announced his cancer diagnosis, but not his diagnosis. The late president traveled to Cuba for surgery and asked Maduro to replace him during his leave, "He is one of the young leaders with the greatest ability to continue, if I cannot," Chavez said.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee gave his condolences, "Hugo Chavez was a destabilizing force in Latin America, and an obstacle to progress in the region." He added, "I hope his death provides an opportunity for a new chapter in U.S.-Venezuelan relations."
